The Brown University contra dance has been running for over fifteen years.  It is currently held first and third Fridays.  The dance runs from 8 - 11:30 and the location rotates between three venues on the Brown campus: Sayles Hall, Leung Gallery, and Alumni Hall.  These directions are for Leung Gallery.  Sayles Hall is located on the University Green, about one hundred yards behind Leung Gallery.  Alumni Hall is located on Pembroke Campus, Meeting Street.  From the Arch by Leung Gallery, turn onto Brown Street (its a T intersection) and proceed up three blocks to Meeting Street.  In theory, one wants to turn right, but Meeting Street is one way in the wrong direction.  Park in that area and walk down Meeting Street instead.  The entrance to Pembroke Campus will be on the left halfway down the block.

As of June 2009, we are continuing our dance series through the summer!  Dances will be held on our regular nights, first and third Fridays from 8 - 11.  Our summer location is St. Stephen's Church on George Street (across from the Ratty) - walking distance from the Main Green.

As of July 2009, we have increased our price to $8/$6.  This is to help with the cost of the hall - it is not certain that this price will continue into the fall when we move back to an on-campus location.

All are heartily welcome as the dance is an excellent mix of students and community members.  No need to come with a partner, one can come alone, but people do tend to have a great time when they come with a group of friends.  Don't worry if you're a beginner either, it will be a ton o' fun.  As of Summer 2009, the price is $8 general admission and $6 students (full-time students from any school).  Occasionally, we charge higher rates for special dances.

The dance is just a block away from Thayer Street which has lots of restaurants, cafes, bars, shops, and is basically a hub for interesting East Side life.  So come early for dinner or go for a drink afterward - make it a contra dance evening on the town!
