Brown Contra Dance Directions

From The South

+ Take 95 North into Providence.

+ Get on 195 East.

+ Take Exit 2 for India Point/Wickenden Street.

+ Turn left (a close left) at the bottom of the exit going under the highway.

+ You will quickly come to a light.  Turn left onto Benefit Street.

+ Go up Benefit Street for many blocks until a light at Waterman Street.  Take a right.  Note that Waterman is one way.

+ Go up Waterman Street one big block (you’re going uphill, College Hill actually) to the light at Waterman and Prospect.  There’ll be a big tower and this marks the Northwest corner of the Brown University Main Green.  Proceed through.

+ You will soon come to a T-intersection, Brown Street ending at Waterman Street, Waterman continues down to Thayer Street.  If you look to your right, you’ll notice a building with an arch; this is The Building, Faunce House, good luck finding a parking spot.  I actually recommend that you start looking back at the intersection of Prospect and Waterman.

From the North - Boston

+ Take 95 South into Providence.

+ Get on 195 East, this is a left hand exit.

+ Take Exit 2 for India Point/Wickenden Street.

+ Go up Benefit Street for many blocks until a light at Waterman Street.  Take a right.  Note that Waterman is one way.

From the North - Worcester

+ Take 146 into Providence.

+ If you were not aware, 146 ends in a horrible merge onto 95 South in downtown Providence.  So do it and when you are pooped out onto 95 get over to the left hand side of the highway (you have about a mile to get to the left) and refer to the “from Boston” directions.

From the Western Woods of Providence And Beyond

+ Take Rt. 6 into Providence.  This can be twisty and will merge with Rt. 10 at some point, but stick with it.

+ Rt. 6/10 comes to an end in downtown Providence at 95, you’ll see your North/South options.  Opt for South.  Once on 95 South, get over to the left very quickly and refer to the “from Boston” directions.  Those of you who know the City better may opt to get off in downtown or Dean Street/Atwells Avenue and snake your way over to College Hill.
